Kove: Syria's recognition of the independence of Abkhazia is an important achievement of 2018
The head of the foreign ministry of Abkhazia reported on the work of the RA MFA.

Sukhum. 26 April. Apsnypress. Minister of Foreign Affairs Daur Kove reported on the work of the foreign ministry of Abkhazia at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

One of the most important achievements of the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia in the outgoing 2018, Daur Kove called the recognition by Syria of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states.

As Kove noted, this event was preceded by a great deal of intensive work by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Russian Federation, and other departments of the republic.

In addition, according to the report, “there was a strengthening and substantial saturation of Abkhaz-Russian relations in various fields, work continued on implementing the provisions of the Treaty of Alliance and Strategic Partnership, ensuring the security of our state and its citizens, the social and economic development of Abkhazia, the promotion of our interests in other countries. Regular consultations continued within the framework of the Foreign Policy Coordination Mechanism established by the Memorandum between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia dated March 11, 2015 ”.

“Abkhazia continues to intensively develop relations with countries that have recognized its state sovereignty. We consistently saturate concrete relations with bilateral relations, in particular, with Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru. Positive dynamics is also observed in relations with our sister republics of South Ossetia, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Every year, relations between our countries are developing qualitatively, their further multifaceted expansion continues, ”- said Kove.

The Minister spoke about the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia in the framework of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus: “Four rounds of Geneva discussions took place in 2018, each of which was preceded by extensive consultations with the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions in Sukhum. The progress and results of each round were widely reported in the media. The Abkhaz delegation, together with the delegations of the Russian Federation and South Ossetia, is committed to the gradual advancement of the main objective of the Geneva discussions - the conclusion of a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force with Georgia. The Abkhaz side shows maximum constructiveness when discussing the issue of adopting a joint oral statement of commitment to the non-use of force as an intermediate step towards signing the relevant agreement. ”

Daur Kove noted that “despite the lack of tangible progress, we can note the positive role of the Geneva format for raising and internationally discussing issues important to the Abkhaz side: the right to free movement for citizens of Abkhazia, ensuring access of official representatives of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to international sites, concern about the deepening of Georgia’s military cooperation with NATO, aspects of the humanitarian situation in the region, problems of access to education, discussion of the insolvency of the term “occupied territories ", as well as a number of other pressing issues."

The minister also spoke about the work of the participants of the Council of Young Diplomats under the Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia: “The representatives of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs participated in meetings with Abkhaz and foreign experts in the field of international relations, were involved in volunteer activities, participated in international forums and scientific and educational programs. Within the framework of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, was held the V round of bilateral consultations between the Council of Young Diplomas under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia and the Council of Young Diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. ”

Concluding the report, Daur Kove stressed: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to be guided by the national interests of the Republic of Abkhazia, increasing efficiency in its work, strengthening human resources, expanding the area of information influence, supporting diplomatic efforts to achieve basic foreign policy goals and creating strong security guarantees and sovereignty of the Republic of Abkhazia ".
