Raul Khadjimba: August 8, 2008 is a page that will remain a black spot in the history of Georgia
The Embassy of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Republic of Abkhazia commemorated those who died in the August 2008 war.

Sukhum. 8 August. Apsnypress. Сommemorative events on the day of the eleventh anniversary of the beginning of the August war of 2008 were held at the Embassy of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Republic of Abkhazia.

President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba, Speaker of the People's Assembly of Parliament Valery Kvarchia, Prime Minister Valery Bganba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Abkhazia Aleksey Dvinyanin, representative of the PMR Garry Kupalba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev came to honor the memory of those killed in the August war of 2008.

Oleg Botsiev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Republic of Abkhazia, recalled: “Today is one of the worst crimes in the history of crimes against peace and humanity, which killed not only civilians, militias, defenders of Tskhinval, but also Russian peacekeepers. We will always repeat that South Ossetia is infinitely grateful and will never forget the feat of Russian soldiers and officers who came to the aid of the people of South Ossetia in the most difficult August days of 2008. Eternal memory to Russian and Ossetian soldiers and officers, who fought shoulder to shoulder with the aggressor and laid down their heads in the name of the life of Ossetians in their homeland and the reign of peace. Their names will always live in the grateful memory of all generations of the people of South Ossetia. ”

At the same time, Botsiev emphasized: “South Ossetia will never be part of Georgia. Thanks to the leadership and people of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia for the help and support that was provided to the Republic of South Ossetia in 2008, and continues to be provided today. I wish the peoples of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Russia peace, prosperity, further development and strengthening of fraternal and good neighborly relations. ”

For his part, Raul Khadjimba noted: “The events in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008 are a page that will remain a black spot in the history of Georgia. This is an attempt to commit genocide against the Ossetian people. The bold decisions of the Russian leadership that were adopted these days subsequently made it possible to preserve our peoples. Eternal memory to all the dead civilians, militias, peacekeepers, soldiers who gave their lives for the country to be preserved! ”

Alexey Dvinyanin also assessed the events of August 2008: “Today is a special day - August 8, 2008 - was a turning point that changed the geopolitical contour in the Caucasus and, in fact, the balance of forces in the region. The treacherous attack of Georgian troops on South Ossetia, which launched the operation under the cynical name of "clean field", was another example of irrepressible revenge and outright aggression from Tbilisi. The Georgian authorities did not draw any conclusions after the defeat in Abkhazia and again embarked on a dangerous adventure, this time sowing atrocities and lawlessness in South Ossetia. Then, in August 2008, Russia fairly and honestly, no matter what they say in the West, extended a helping hand to the burning Tskhinval and forced Georgia to peace. I am sure that the time will come when the Georgian instigators of two wars will have to answer for their atrocities before the peoples of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia. August 8 is a tragic date, each time we recall the heroes who fell in the struggle for independence and the very existence of South Ossetia. But at the same time, August 8 is the day the liberation from Georgian shackles and the subsequent Victory begin. May the friendship between Abkhazia, Russia and South Ossetia grow stronger! Together we will overcome any obstacles. ”

Dmitry Medoev emphasized that August 2008 is a tragic page in recent history. “At the same time, these are the dates of the greatest acquisition - the restoration of Ossetian statehood, which was lost 600 years ago. We are grateful to the leadership of the Russian Federation for the August decisions of 2008, ” - he said.
